The Toulouse player suffered a heavy loss on Friday (January 12) but still has to wait to find out whether he will qualify for the main draw of the Australian Grand Slam (January 14-28).
A dry, heavy defeat, but perhaps not crippling. On Friday, January 12, tennis player Hugo Gaston from Toulouse suffered a heavy defeat in Melbourne in the last qualifying round of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the season.
The Pink City native was soundly beaten by South African Lloyd Harris, who is currently the No. 149 player in the world but has topped the ATP rankings at No. 31 in the past. However, the 26-year-old player defeated Toulouse with scores of 6-0 and 6-2 in just 55 minutes.
Additionally, Hugo Grenier, Terence Atmane, Fiona Ferro and even former Stade Toulousain Tennis player Léolia Jeanjean earned their ticket to the main draw. There are currently 23 Tricolores protecting the colors of France.
But all hope was not lost for Hugo Gaston. His current ranking (99) in the world rankings qualifies him for the repechage as a “lucky loser”.
