France performed well in the United Cup this year, but Iga Swiatel’s Poland edged out Caroline Garcia and her team.
The final was a close result for France, who were unsuccessful in the semi-finals of the United Cup (mixed team competition) on Saturday 5 January. France, which beat Italy and Germany in the group stage and then Norway in the quarter-finals, could not beat Poland.
Victory for Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz
Adrian Mannarino (22nd) first faced Hubert Hurkacz (9th). A complex match in which the Pole was never put in danger and won thanks to a particularly strong serve. The winner of last season’s Shanghai Master 1000 will have scored 15 aces against the Frenchman.

It was then all down to Caroline Garca (20th), who was hoping for victory against the boss of the women’s circuit, Iga Swiatek. In her sixth match with the Polish woman, the French woman managed to show her worth by winning the first set 6-4. However, the three-time Roland-Garros winner did not have the last word and managed to win without much difficulty. Final score 4-6 6-1 6-1.
The French, represented by Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Elixane Lechemia in mixed doubles, also lost against Katarzyna Kawa and Jan Zielinski (6-3 6-3). Poland has therefore qualified for the final and will face Australia or Germany, who play in the semi-finals, this Saturday morning.
